SIMPYC project
Project description
The Simpyc project started in august
2004 and will have a duration of three years.
The Valencia Port Authority is the leader
of the Simpyc project and the beneficiary of the LIFE funds
granted by the European Commission.
The total budjet of the project is 1.720.049 euros,
of which the European Comisión has contributed 830.026 euros.
The project is led by the Valencia Port Authority, with the
collaboration of ports and municipalities in Spain, rance and Italy.
The other partners that participate in the project are:

Project objectives
The main objectives targeted by the Simpyc project are the following:
- To prove the socio-economic significance of ports and their role in the environmental conservation.
- To coordinate environmental management processes implemented in urban and port environments
as well as coordination between administrations.
- To develop joint iniciatives to monitor the environment in the port-city interface,
emphasizing monitoring and control of air and noise pollution and undesirable visual impacts,
following the criteria established by the Directive 96/62/CE on quality of environmental air and impact
on land development.
- To raise awareness amongst the general public about the importance of the coastal
environment and the need for its preservation.
