Partners of the Simpyc project begin their port-city environmental integration plan.

Yesterday the Simpyc Project got underway in the Port of Valencia with the kick off meeting of all partners committed to this sustainable development plan. Over the next three years, Simpyc aims to provide tangible results in environmental management through the collaboration of ports with institutions and society.

The General Manager of the Port of Valencia, Ramón Gómez-Ferrer, pledged the VPA’s maximum support for the project, “which provides a link with the environmental policy we have followed in recent years”. According to Gomez Ferrer, “Simpyc will offer tangible results and will demonstrate to society and the European Union that ports and cities can work together in the pursuit of sustainable development”.

Partners

The Valencia meeting gathered all Simpyc partners: the cities of Toulon, Valencia and Livorno; the Du Var Chamber of Commerce; the Valencia and Livorno Port Authorities, Puertos de Estado (Public Agency State Ports); the Fundación Comunidad Valenciana - Región Europea; the University of Valencia; Azahar Ingeniería and the Regional Government Department of Infrastructure, as well as the Fundación Feports and Syntesis. Federico Torres, Manager of Safety and the Environment of the VPA, presented the activities’ agenda which will be followed until the project concludes in 2007.
