07/02/07 Design and implementation of an Environmental Action Plan in commercial-industrial ports.
The tasks for preparing an Environmental Action Plan have been completed. In-depth studies for the analysis and design of tools to monitor and control air and noise pollution and plans for minimising visual impact have brought results that will improve these aspects and allow measures to be implemented which will help improve port-city relations in terms of the environment.
Firstly, the equipment installed by some project partners for monitoring air and noise quality was identified. This allowed an inventory of existing equipment to be made which details the technical characteristics of the equipment and its location in order to determine compatibilities with other equipment which might be installed in the future.
Some common indexes for the three areas of study were then established to determine guidelines for the different studies.
The information obtained in relation to the air pollution study referred to meteorological aspects, principal sources of particle emissions as well as the installation of air quality monitoring systems, while bearing in mind the requirements of Directive 96/62/EC.
In relation to noise pollution, the methodology followed the stipulations of directive 2002/49 on noise for taking readings and drawing up noise maps.
The third study focused on visual impact along the port-city interface. As with the other studies, a common index was drawn up of the principal visual aspects to be considered.
